A special aircraft carrying Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and several federal ministers made an emergency landing on Tuesday shortly after taking off from a military airbase in the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi. The aircraft, which was going to Sukkur in Sindh province, returned to Chaklala airbase shortly after take-off and made an emergency landing as it had developed technical problems, TV news channels quoted officials as saying.

Slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden's three widows and two daughters were on Monday sentenced to 45 days in prison and fined Rs 10,000 each for illegally entering and living in Pakistan by a court in Islamabad, which also ordered their deportation after completion of their jail terms. The trial of the women was conducted in a house in Islamabad where members of bin Laden's family are currently being held. Authorities have declared the house a sub-jail.

Nearly 100 Taliban fighters attacked a security check-post in Pakistan's restive tribal belt, triggering a clash that left 14 militants and three security personnel dead, officials said. Leading rights activist Ansar Burney has asked the Pakistan government to immediately free three Indian prisoners who have either completed their jail terms or whose release has been ordered by the court. Indian national Surjeet Singh alias Makhan Singh had completed his prison term on October 30, 2010 but he continues to be held in prison, Burney said in letters sent to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.

Taseer, who was gunned down by a policeman last year for his calls for reforming the controversial blasphemy law, was awarded the Nishan-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan's highest civilian award. The award was received by his widow Aamna Taseer.
